Sunday 6th July 1.30pm - 5pm

At Jubilee Hall, Starston, Norfolk, IP20 9NL

Woad doesn’t just stand out as a dye plant because it was the only blue producing plant available to most of Europe for hundreds of years, but also in the method of its extraction and application to fibres through the vat method.

In this workshop we will start with leaves and end up with a range of vibrant blues using the hydrosulphide vat method.

We'll also make and use a yellow dye bath to make a range of bold and colour fast greens.

We’ll be using fresh woad, grown by the tutor in Norfolk, and a foraged yellow (probably apple or weld). This is a rather hodge podge type workshop, lots of odds and ends of yarn and fabric provided by the tutor. Exact amounts and sizes will depend on the woad harvest and what is available but expect wool, silk, cotton and linen, fabric and yarns, depending on what is available at that point in the year. If you have specific requirements or want to bring your own fibres please get in touch.

Refreshments and all materials included. Do let me know if you have any dietary requirements.
