Sunday 26th October 10am - 4pm
At Jubilee Hall, Starston, Norfolk, IP20 9NL
A lovely deep dive into the world of natural dyes through the lens of tree barks, leaves and hedgerow plants.
Good for both beginners and those looking to further their knowledge, we will work with a variety of tree tannins and how they can be applied to maximize their colour potential, as well as the variabilities across both animal and cellulose fibres, and also look at some of the more yellow tones that come from certain leaves and some specialist berries.
Find out about how different fibres, methods and mordants can be used to fix and alter colours through discussion and practical experiments.
Some bark dye baths will be pre-prepare, but others made on the day. Dye woollen skeins and fabric swatches - exact quantities and sizes will depend on how many participants and what is available near to the time but expect a mix of wool skeins with oddments of silk, cotton and linen, fabric and yarns. If you have specific requirements or want to bring your own fibres please get in touch.
Refreshments and all materials included. Do let me know if you have any dietary requirements. Please bring your own packed lunch. Starston village hall has a full kitchen which you are welcome to use to heat up or cook food.
There is no handout for this course so you may wish to bring a notebook.
